If the problem file's extension is changed to.xls and I'm fairly sure that's because it was originally created in a much older version of Excel, then opened and updated for several Worthwhile to note: Another file that was worked on at the same time DOES open with no problem.When the file was created in Mac Excel 2011, it was operating in an earlier Mac OS version but still, the Mac Office 2011 apps had been fully compatible in other respects and no other updates had been recommended.This is still Mac Excel 2011, but a later sub-version (14.6.6) – meaning, what I am trying to open it with now.In attempting to open the file a year later, I get this error:. ![]() In addition to the original file in original location, it was also backed up to Google Drive I don't know the sub-version but it would have been whatever was current at that time (Jan-Feb 2016).
